Mission Statement
The principal purposes and objectives of this running club are to
promote the sport of running, improve the health and physical fitness of
the membership and the public at large. To accomplish these objectives
we will be sponsoring clinics on race walking, the value of impact
fitness activities, training techniques, diet, treatment of running
related injuries and sponsoring road races. In addition we place a
strong emphasis on fun running and social activities related to running.
In support of these objectives, we solicit and welcome members from a
broad cross section of interested area people. Many of our runners are
retired from active running, but continue to maintain an interest in the
sport and support the club by their membership and assistance in staging
our races. We welcome these members, since every member is important to
a small organization.
While some runners question the value of belonging to a runners club,
there are many positives both past and present. Those who have been
running for a few years recall the harassment and hostility directed
toward runners by the motoring public, government authorities and others
concerned with traffic control and street safety. Not only has the
efforts of organized running clubs and parent organizations such as RRCA
and USATF dispelled a negative image, they have led to the establishment
of running trails and tracks in most major cities and raised millions of
dollars for charity. In addition, the growing running movement has led
to improvements in health and medical knowledge concerning joint,
muscle, respiratory and cardio vascular health. A by-product of the
running boom has been the development and improvement of all types of
running gear from high quality running shoes to heart rate monitoring
systems.
The Citrus Road Runners place particular emphasis on family running
groups. We believe that families that start running together early,
provide a lifetime vehicle for wholesome family activity that provides
the opportunity for competition and reduces the time and temptation for
troublesome activity.
The Citrus Road Runners are a non-profit member club of the Road Runners
Club of America, (RRCA) and are fully covered by liability insurance.
Meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Central Ridge Library in Beverly Hills.
We believe we can provide something of value and interest to all
runners. Please call Chris Moling, Club President, at (352) 726-4407 or
Karl Seidman, Club Vice President, at (352) 341-1531 to discuss any aspect
of the sport of running, club activities or objectives of the club.
