Observations by Coach Adler, Top Gun Running Camp, Miami, FL
Just got back from a wonderful 2 days in Inverness. The Miami group will definitely be returning next year and we intend to stay longer and possibly do some tubing etc. on one of the rivers.
First off let me say that the people who hosted us are some of the most hospitable I have met. We brought a team of 15 runners and 6 adults and despite such a large group, we were made to feel most welcome.
Thank you to Caitlin Montgomerie and her family, who not only housed our 3 girls but entertained our entire group after the race, served them pizza, allowed them to swim and shower. Danny Epstein and his wife housed 4 of our boys despite having to worry about their 2 young ones and the distance from the site. C. J Bryant for putting up and putting up with the ever colorful and energetic Jaime and Danny. Milt Lyons who took on 3 people while trying to get the course ready and whom I know stayed up all hours to ensure a successful race. To Colon Joiner and his wife for taking care of Alex and Jordan while at the same time taking care of the race. We enjoyed having dinner with you all.
Suggestions for next years race - NONE - we loved it just the way it was.
Trevor Scales, Josh Randall and friend (couldn't remember name) hope you got the car fixed.
Danny Martin ran a great race and gets stronger each time out- he is clearly now one of the big boys.
Jaime Calzada has shown what hard training can do and will be a force in 4a.
What a fantastic course - this was the best cross country course I have seen in Florida. Most importantly, we have seen what flrunners.com has done for running at the high school level in Florida - because this race and our participation in it would not have happened without the website - we were able to meet people who we would have walked right by at the State meet, but can now call friends. Thanks to all and an open invite to all of you out there to come and sample our course on July 17 and Aug 14 for our 2 remaining xcountry races- it should be noted that our course produced times between 30-45 secs slower last week than what Danny, Jaime and Jordan did today.
