Superheroes

A group of club members have participated in the annual Dare To Go Bare 5K in Lutz, Florida for several years. This year was no exception, yet it was different. The runners, Chris Moling, Christian Feldt, and Andrei Feldt wanted to make a statement, and they did!

It was still dark when our heroes arrived in Lutz on May 5, 2002. The paintjob was expected to take several hours. The rest of the 170 runners and their families arrived just after dawn. None of them could quite figure out what was going on. Three young men being painted by a couple of young ladies! Nobody made any comments at the time but they all watched very carefully.

However, it soon became quite obvious what was taking place and as soon as the paintjob was done, our superheroes had to pose for hundreds of photographs, posing with totally unknown, naked runners of both sexes. The St. Petersburg Times took notice also and reported the event the next day.

When the race started the spectators were soon divided into three camps, each cheering on his or her own superhero. Few of the other 167 runners had any fans at all. Some of the younger spectators couldn't remember who the Flash was and some of the seniors couldn't quite place the Tick. Consequently Spiderman won the popularity contest.

Chris Moling, Inverness entrepreneur and Citrus Road Runner president, was Spiderman for a day. Christian Feldt, graduate student at U. of Central Florida was the Flash and Andrei Feldt, a UF student, was the Tick.
Juan Fuentes, an Inverness high schooler, also participated winning his age group.

Everybody had a good time. Nobody remembers the results of the race but winning is not everything and our heroes felt like winners anyway. Their daring venture created a minor problem, however - how to top this performance next year?
